Stephen Froiland, 45, Oakland

Funeral services for Stephen S. Froiland, 45, of Oakland, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Oakland Lutheran Church. The Rev. Peter Soli will officiate. Interment will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Stephen died Tuesday, March 27, 2007, at Rochester Methodist Hospital. He had suffered 25 years with Crohn&8217;s Disease, resulting in a rare liver disease.
Stephen Samuel Froiland was born June 20, 1961, to Kermit and LaVonne (Kruger) Froiland in Albert Lea. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1979 and attended Austin Junior College. Stephen took art classes at the Minnesota River School of Fine Arts in Minneapolis. He also taught classes there and at the Trinity Christian School and had done a great deal of tutoring over the years. Children were very special to him. Stephen loved painting, especially nature and all of God&8217;s creation and specialized in portraits and the realism type of painting. He also enjoyed photography. Stephen was a member of the Oakland Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his parents, Kermit and LaVonne Froiland of Oakland; brothers, Gary and his
wife, Elaine Froiland of Stewartville and Michael Froiland of Mankato; nephew, Joshua Froiland; niece, Jessica Froiland; uncles and aunts: Bill and Gen Kruger, Helen Pearson, Harold and Charlene Kruger and Lois Chapek; and many cousins.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Regina Froiland and Ray and Esther Kruger; uncle and aunt, Wayne and Delores Wood; and uncles, Art Chapek and Frank Pearson.
