Alice Curry, 85, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Alice Loken Curry will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Indiantown, Pa. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations.

Alice died on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center, Health Care Wing, Albert Lea. She was 85 years old.

Alice was born in rural New Richland on June 22, 1921, the daughter of Jens and Cecelia O. (Hagen) Loken.

She was baptized and confirmed at LeSueur Lutheran Church in New Richland. She was a 1940 graduate of New Richland High School and a 1943 graduate of Naeve School of Nursing, Albert Lea, with a RN degree.

She served in the U. S. Army from January 1944 to September 1953, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. She was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo., for basic training. In March of 1944, she was assigned to the 187th General Hospital in England and remained there until the autumn of 1945 when she was reassigned to a hospital in the Southern U.S. In 1951, she was assigned duties in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

She was united in marriage with Lt. Col. Kenneth E. Curry on Nov. 1, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1984. She has made her home in Albert Lea for the past 20 years and was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Albert Lea Elks, Albert Lea American LegionPost 56, and Women of the Military. She enjoyed playing bridge.

Alice is survived by one brother, Arnold (Marlys) Loken of New Richland; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Loken of Waseca and Isabel Loken of Albert Lea; and by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 1984; four sisters:

Gena Fretham, Mary Schumacher, Cannetta Helland and Agnes Loken; five brothers:

Ole (Nina), Arthur, Elmer, Walter (Mame) and Clifford.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to Peace and Power or a charity of choice.
