Crossroads wins dartball playoffs

Crossroads Evangelical Free Church, in only its second season, won the Brotherhood Dartball League playoffs held at Salem Lutheran Church. It defeated Conger-Bear Lake 18-17.
The Salem team served the meal for over 160 players from 14 teams.
President Ted Yost conducted a short business meeting after the meal. Melvin Steele was recognized for playing over 40 years in the league and Al Krueger for serving as the league secretary for over 20 years.
The top six teams in the regular season qualify for the playoffs. Ascension Lutheran won the regular season title for the seventh straight year. Other teams qualifying for the playoffs were Mansfield Lutheran second place, Crossroads third, Conger-Bear Lake fourth, First Lutheran fifth and last year&8217;s playoff champion Trinity Lutheran sixth.
Dartball is played with underhand tosses of darts at a target laid out like a baseball field at a distance of 15 feet. Batters get a hit or an out depending on where their darts land.
First place Ascension and second place Mansfield received first-round byes. The first and second round games last seven innings and the championship game is nine innings.
In first round games Crossroads defeated defending playoff champion Trinity 10-3 and Conger-Bear Lake defeated First Lutheran 11-1.
Second round games saw Conger-Bear Lake upset regular season champion Ascension 12-7 and Crossroads defeating Mansfield, the regular season second place finisher, 11-6.
The championship game was tied after four innings at 12-12. Crossroads built a lead of 18-14 after 8 1/2 innings and were able to hold Conger-Bear Lake to three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 18-17 and claim the playoff title.
