Leo Zobel, 88, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Leo J. Zobel of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea veterans organizations. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leo died on Wednesday morning April 4, 2007, at Thornecrest Retirement Center.

He was 88.

Leo was born on June 2, 1918, in Ventura, Iowa, the son of William and Ella (Halverson) Zobel. He graduated from Fertile High School, Fertile, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Tufte on May 17, 1942, in Albert Lea.

Leo served our country in the U.S. Army Air Corp from March 5, 1941, until his honorable discharge in 1945. He had worked at LeSota Tool Company in Albert Lea, Halverson Welding Clear Lake, Iowa, owned and operated Leo’s Four Corners in Detroit Lakes, and had worked on road maintenance for the State of Minnesota until retiring.

Leo was a member of First Lutheran Church, the American Legion, the Moose Club, and the Eagles. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette &8220;Jan&8221; of Albert Lea, daughter Jul Ann and her husband Don Skue of St. Cloud, son Steve Zobel and his wife Kendra of Louisburg, N.C.; grandchildren: Kim and her husband Wayne King of Detroit Lakes, Brent Bristlin and his wife Jenny of Detroit Lakes, LuAnn Bristlin of Greenville, Del., Chris Zobel of Louisburg, N.C.; several great-grandchildren; brother Floyd Zobel and his wife Lois of Lincoln, Neb.; twin sister Leone &8220;Dolly&8221; and her husband George Frahm of Mason City, Iowa; sister Mildred Matson of Mason City, Iowa; brother-in-law Ben Tufte and his wife Betty of Albert Lea; and several nieces and nephews.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill, Butch, Buck, Bing and sister Elsie Hickok.
