WASECA &8212; A talented and young Waseca boys&8217; tennis team shutout Albert Lea Monday ,7-0.
The Tigers got strong efforts up and down the lineup but could not come away with wins.
Corey Dieser lost his match at No. 1 singles 1-6, 5-7 and Jon Bosma lost 4-6, 2-6 at No. 2. Drew Passingham was downed 1-6, 0-6 at No. 3 and Scott Johnson lost 2-6, 4-6 at No. 4.
&8220;Waseca played very well but we didn&8217;t make a lot of mistakes and made them hit the ball by us,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam said. &8220;Scott Johnson was up 4-0 in his second set and I think the nerves got to him a little bit. Jon Bosma put a lot of work in over the summer and it has shown he was 3-0 coming into this match.&8221;
In doubles, Mike Bosma and Levi Peterson were downed 0-6, 3-6, Matt Stoneking and Jake Thompson lost 6-7 (4-7), 3-6 and Evan Nolander and Davis Thompson fell 1-6, 1-6.
&8220;I rested some of our regulars because we have a big week and I didn&8217;t want to burn out their legs. We are still doing some juggling with the lineup, but that No. 2 doubles team seems to be developing some good chemistry,&8221; Gillam said.
Winning junior varsity matches for the Tigers were Noah Christopherson and Luke Thompson.
The Tigers are back in action today when they travel to Owatonna for a Big Nine battle.
&8220;This is a good group of kids to work with, and losing is not a bad thing as long as you are learning from it,&8221; Gillam said.
