Bike-A-Thon raises $25,581 to help fight cancer

The 100-mile Freeborn County American Cancer Society Bike-A-Thon was held May 5. According to co-chairman, Mark Harig, the event raised $25,581 to help support the ACS mission of education and research.
Thirty-six riders completed the 100-mile route.
Scott Erlandson finished at 11:55 a.m. Other local riders who finished in less than nine hours were John Mattson (noon), Mark Falk (12:40 p.m.), Walter Schiltz, (12:45 p.m.), John Schultz (1:20 p.m.), Alan Anderson (2:15 p.m.) and Gabriel Dyvig (2:35 p.m.).
The last rider in was Matt Friedeman, who finished at 7:03 p.m.
The team challenge brought in $7,823 of the total. The five teams from the Cloverleaf Lions, Albert Lea Lions, Rotary, Noon Kiwanis and Daybreakers Kiwanis clubs raised $6,214 of the team total. Teams from Grace Lutheran, Kwik Trip and Hanson Tire raised the remaining $1,609.
Some 30 riders took part in the team challenge.
Top fundraising individuals were recognized Tuesday at prize night at Skyline Plaza.
The top individuals and the prizes they received are listed here.
1. David Anderson raised $2,208. He received $100 in Chamber Bucks and a shirt from Home Federal Savings Bank.
2. Richard Diaz raised $1,475 and received a $50 savings bond and a Movie Gallery shirt.
3. Travis Moffitt raised $1,111 and received a $50 savings bond. As the youth who raised the most money, he also received $75 in Chamber Bucks.
4. Leon Bure raised $900 and received a $50 savings bond and Schweigert vest.
5. Fred Moran raised $749 and received a coin set from Security Bank.
6. Mark Falk raised $705 and received a $30 check from United Employees Credit Union and a Schweigert sweatshirt.
7. LeAnn Juveland raised $675 and received a $50 savings bond.
8. Otto Becker raised $635 and received $25 in Chamber Bucks from Western Rental. At 81 years old, he was also recognized as the oldest rider and awarded a gift certificate from Sanderson Auto.
9. Don Webber raised $500 and received $25 in Chamber Bucks from Nancy VanderWaerdt State Farm Insurance.
10. Andrew Olson raised $364.50 and received a $20 check from Commerce Bank. As the youngest rider (age 7) he was also awarded $10 in Chamber Bucks.
11. DeAnna Hagerty raised $362.20 and received a Silver Eagle coin from Citizens State Bank of Glenville.
12. Scott Erlandson raised $355 and was awarded a Silver Eagle coin from Citizens State Bank of Glenville.
13. Domonic Dreyling raised $344 and received a $25 gift certificate from Martin&8217;s Cycling & Fitness and a coupon.
14. Robert Rasmusson raised $342 and received a $25 gift certificate from Martin&8217;s Cyclng & Fitness and a coupon.
15. Doug Sabinash raised $315 and received a gift certificate from Martin&8217;s Cycling and Fitness and a coupon.
16. Sherri Burt raised $310 and received a picnic bag from Home Federal Savings Bank.
17. Jacob Webber raised $310 and received a gift certificate from Martin&8217;s Cycling & Fitness and a coupon.
18. Chuck Sandager raised $300 and received a Wells Fargo bag and a car wash from Shell.
19. Ray Stephenson raised $255 and received a Power 96 shirt and coupon.
20. Clint Schmidt raised $250 and received a coupon for a Dairy Queen frozen cake.
21. Leman Northway raised $220 and received a Kwik Trip card and coupon.
22. Brook Swanson raised $215 and received a Power 96 shirt and coupon.
23. Jennifer Bartholmey raised $212.50 and received a Kwik Trip card and coupon.
24. Jon Christenson earned $195 and received a Shell car wash and a K& K Bakery certificate.
25. Kelly Schultz raised $185. She received a Wells Fargo umbrella and coupon.
26. Sara Schmidt raised $177. She received a certificate from K & K Bakery and a Shell car wash.
27. John Schultz raised $175 and received a gift pack.
28. William Webber raised $175 and received a gift pack.
29. John Buringa raised $165 and received a Schweigert cap and mittens and a coupon.
30. Stacy Furness raised $155. She received a certificate from K & K Bakery and a Shell car wash.
31. Gabriel Dyvig raised $150. He received a Schweigert cap and mittens and a coupon.
Bank night winners were: Tommy Geesman, Gabriel Dyvig, LeAnn Juveland, Daniel Dyvig and Sarah Schmidt, who received movie rental and pizza coupons; John Schultz, who received a Wells Fargo hat and can cooler; Doug Sabinash, who received a golf ball, tees and can cooler; John Mattson, who received a Schweigert lunch bag and hat; and Brook Swanson, who received a Wells Fargo lunch bag and a pizza coupon.
