Tiger tennis team drops two

MASON CITY, Iowa &8212; The Albert Lea boys&8217; tennis team lost to Mason City Monday 9-2 in a six singles and five doubles format.

Teams were able to use singles players in doubles matches.

Corey Dieser got the Tigers off to a good start winning at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Jon Bosma battled in his match before coming up short 5-7, 4-6, Josh Svendsen lost 3-6, 3-6 and Drew Passingham was downed 3-6, 2-6. Mike Bosma was downed 0-6, 1-6 and Davis Thompson lost 2-6, 3-6.

Dieser and Jon Bosma were downed at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 before Svendsen and Mike Bosma record the team&8217;s other victory at No. 2 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).

Passingham and Evan Nolander lost 2-6, 3-6, Matt Stoneking and Bryant Olchefske came up short 3-6, 4-6. Levi Peterson and Jake Thompson had a close match at No. 5 doubles falling 4-6, 6-7 (4-7).

&8220;It was a new format and I don&8217;t know if I like it or not, but it was good to play someone from across the state line and it was a good experience,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Sean Gillam said.

Tuesday, the Tigers fell to Big Nine foe Rochester Century 7-0.

Jon Bosma, Passingham and Jake Thompson all lost their singles matches by scores of 0-6, 0-6. Davis Thompson lost at No. 4 singles 0-6, 1-6.

Dieser and Stoneking lost at No. 1 doubles 1-6, 0-6, Svendsen and Mike Bosma fell 1-6, 6-7 (1-7) and Peterson and Nolander lost 3-6, 3-6.

&8220;Century is a good, young team with four eighth graders and one seventh grader in their lineup,&8221; Gillam said. &8220;They play hard and humble and that is what we try to do.&8221;

Joe Polis and Eric Volkman were junior varsity winners for the Tigers.
