Tigers earn victory in extras

The Albert Lea baseball team split a doubleheader with Owatonna Tuesday winning the first game 9-8 in 10 innings before falling in the second 12-0 in six.

The Tigers trailed 5-0 entering the bottom of the fifth inning of game one before the offense woke up.

Casey Woodside and Adam Royce had big hits in a three-run fifth for Albert Lea and Anthony Tippett added a key double.

Albert Lea would tie the game up in the sixth with two more runs before both teams scored three times in the eighth.

The Tigers would get the win in the bottom of the 10th when Jared Gavle picked up one of his three hits in the game with a single. Joel Eisenbraun sacrificed him to second and Mitch Wenum ended the game with an RBI single with two outs.

Gavle added two doubles in the game while Woodside, Royce and Wenum all had two hits.

Tippett picked up the win on the mound pitching the final seven innings giving up six hits and no earned runs.

Owatonna scored six runs in the sixth inning of game two to end it early as they pounded out 13 hits in the game.

Levi Langseth had two hits and Royce had a double to account for Albert Lea&8217;s only offense.

The Tigers are back in action today when they travel to Mankato to take on West.
