USC earns golf sweep

FREEBORN &8212; The United South Central golf teams had a successful day on the course Tuesday with both the boys&8217; and girls&8217; team picking up wins.

The girls won a tough Gopher Conference battle of New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 221-235.

Jessica Stensrud took medalist honors with a round of 50. Kirsten Amberg and Christi Johnson both shot 56 and Erin Hotzler had a 59.

&8220;That is the first time this season that we put four scores below 60,&8221; USC head coach Randy Halvorson said.

Mariah Tappe led the Panthers with a 53, Brittni Wangsness had a solid round of 57, Shelby Whitcomb added a 60 and Jessica Shultz had a 65.

The USC boys downed both NRHEG and Alden-Conger in triangular play. The Rebels shot 167, A-C carded a 182 and the Panthers shot 193.

USC&8217;s Alex Pederson was the medalist with a 37, Jared Ludeman had a 40, Sam Gackstetter shot 44 and Jeff Hassing carded a 46.

Sam Hallman led the Knights with a 40, Joey Larson had a 46, Chad Peterson added a 47 and Josh Larson had 49.

NRHEG was led by Josh Beatty&8217;s 47, Drew Harrington and Dalen Ferber carded 48 and Justin Kormann rounded out the varsity with a 50.
