The Albert Lea boys&8217; U-11 soccer team, sponsored by Plaza Morena, is continuing its excellent play after finishing second in the state at the Star of the North games last fall.
The U-11 team is playing in the tough classic 2 south division, which is comprised of some of the best teams in the state, and so far have been playing very well and winning.
After a couple of losses to two metro teams, it followed that up with a 2-1 win over Prior Lake.
Timmy Furland and Carter Dahl played great offense each scoring for Albert Lea.
Preston Smith and Van Zelenek played an excellent midfield and offense to keep Prior Lake off balance.
Ce’sar Herrera and Collin Jahnke, played tough defense to keep Prior lake to one goal.
Making some great saves and playing solid at goalie was Nate Hogstad.
The Twin Cities&8217; U-11 teams aren&8217;t supposed to lose to Albert Lea, so its always fun to get a win from them. That&8217;s just what Albert did two days later and dominated
another metro team &8212; this time
Burnsville
&8212; with a score of 6-0.
Burnsville could never get things going with solid defense from Cole Keyeski, Garrett Matz, and Herrera.
Albert Lea&8217;s offense started to work well with each other with great passing and smart play. Leading the offense was Furland with two goals, Dahl added two goals and Tyler Vandenheuvel and Herrera had a goal.
Riley Ruble and Preston Smith played aggressive offense and defense to keep Burnsville out of the game. Hogstad was solid in the net to get the shutout.
The team is coached by Bob Furland, Gary Hogstad and Pam Ruble.
The U – 11 team would like to thank Plaza Morena for suppling the team with new uniforms.
