Harold Maynard Aspenson, 85, of Albert Lea

Harold Maynard Aspenson, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away June 18, 2007, at age 85 after a brief illness.

He was born March 9, 1922, in Albert Lea, to Olavus and Valborg Aspenson. He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in China, India and the Pacific. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor&8217;s degree in business administration and worked for Wilson Foods in Albert Lea, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Oklahoma City, Okla., for 33 years before his retirement in 1982.

Harold married Shirley Dean Ewing on Sept. 4, 1948, and together they raised five children. They enjoyed many happy years together before her death on June 19, 1978, following a battle with lung cancer.

Harold loved spending time with his family, vacationing, playing games, picnicking, participating in outdoor sporting activities, and shopping for bargains. After retirement, he spent his time traveling and visiting with his children and grandchildren, who were always his greatest joys.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his son, Jim; his brothers, Richard, Robert and Gordon; his sister, Dorothy; and his second wife, Bonnie Braun Aspenson.

He is survived and cherished by his children: Judy Oakes, Nancy Willson, Susan Pliner Eberhardt and Leslie Hadley; his sister, Dolly (Ruth) Levisen; his grandchildren: Sara Polansky, Brian Willson, Andrea Pliner, Molly Willson Lahr, Katelyn Oakes, Julie Pliner, Meredith Oakes, Megan Hadley, Kyle Hadley, Corey Hadley, Lucy Oakes, Mady Oakes and Tyler Hadley; his great-grandchildren: Jackson Polansky, Jack Willson and Gracie Lahr; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are being held at 11 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at the church.

Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery, Albert Lea.
