Melvin W. DeRaad, 76, of Austin, died June 9, 2007 at St. Mark&8217;s Lutheran Home.
He was born June 17, 1930, in Hollandale to Arthur and Tirzah (Rogers) DeRaad. He attended school in Austin.
He is a retired employee of Hormel Foods, retiring Sept. 28, 1982 with 35 years of service. He was also a school bus driver for 10 years and owned the Countryside Motel and Trailer Park and the Steer Truck Stop Service Station.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie of Austin; two sons and a daughter-in-law,
Alan of Austin and Mark (Mary) of Albert Lea; and two grandchildren, James and Nicholas.
Melvin loved the Lord and his church, serving as a board member and usher for many years. He also loved camping, fishing and reading at McDonalds.
A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the New Life Vineyard Church with the Rev. Raymond Tuck of the International Word Fellowship Church officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mayer Funeral Home.
