Winona L. Buchanan, 91, Gordonsville

Dr. Winona Lora Buchanan was born the oldest child of Frank and Verian Snyder Buchanan on July 2, 1915, on a farm at Gordonsville. She graduated from Freeborn High School in 1930, Loma Linda School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1940. She was on the faculty of Vassar School for Girls as a resident physician in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., while her husband, Dr. Gordon Brannan, was overseas in World War II. She also worked for the Bell Telephone Company in Brooklyn, N.Y.

She is survived by two sisters, Tracy Christensen of Albert Lea and Freeborn, and Janet Bailey of Leemore, Calif.; two sons, Dr. William Brannan and Robert Brannan; one daughter, Genevieve Brannan Slagel; and numerous nieces and nephews of the Freeborn County, Albert Lea and Gordonsville areas.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Dr. Fremont Buchanan, Dr. Gerald Buchanan and Leland Buchanan.
