Editorial: Cut down on noisy tailpipes

Earlier this month the Albert Lea Police Department and the Freeborn County Sheriff&8217;s Office conducted extra speed enforcement as part of the Safe & Sober campaign in an effort to curb speeding on roads in the deadliest season.
We very much appreciate the extra speed enforcement, so good job. If the law enforcement community is looking for its next campaign, please allow us &8212; based on comments we&8217;ve received from many local residents following a &8220;Thumbs down&8221; we wrote two weeks ago &8212; to make a humble suggestion.
Please conduct extra vehicle noise enforcement. Summer is also the noisest season.
The motorcycles especially are too loud &8212; disturbing sleep, interrupting dinner conversation and menacing sensitive eardrums. They are loud only for the sake of bothering people.
Being loud, of course, is not deadly like speeding is, so we understand it isn&8217;t high on a priorities.
But, oh boy, the impact the campaign could have on bringing peace and quiet to Albert Lea neighborhoods would be immense. There would be many thankful people.
