Lester G. Culbertson, 86, of Wabasha, formerly of Wells, died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born Oct. 24, 1920, near Wells, the son of Herbert and Vera (Fountain) Culbertson. He married Marcella Gaines Oct. 25, 1944, in Blue Earth. The family lived in Wells until moving to Rochester in 1960. They moved to Wabasha in 1966. Les worked as a butcher and truck driver. After moving to Wabasha he drove for Pepin Fisheries in Pepin, Wis., for two years and then worked as an over the road trucker for Bud Meyer Trucking of Lake City, retiring in 1996.

Les was a member of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Monica Culbertson, Tacoma, Wash., Harold and Kathy Culbertson, Torrance, Calif., Randy and Julie Culbertson, Columbus, Ohio, Steven (Kathy Daniels) Culbertson, Cannon Falls, Charles and Theresa Culbertson, Raleigh, N.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Larry Hanson, Wabasha; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Maynard and Connie Culbertson, Seattle, Wash., David and Jan Culbertson, Pequot Lakes, Beverly Culbertson, Ellendale, Marlene Culbertson, Wells;

sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty Fredericks, New Brighton, Bessie and Ed Soost, Wells, Liliah and John Scrabeck, Clarks Grove, Bonnie and Maynard Bakken, LaPorte; nieces and nephews.

His wife, Marcella, who died Dec. 26, 2006, his daughter, Pamala, who died Sept. 2, 2006, and three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Melvin, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Wells Assembly of God Church in Wells with the Rev. Merwin Miller officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Wells. Friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
