Peter Vanderploeg, 76,
died on Friday, July 6, 2007 at his home in rural Glenville.
Funeral service for Peter will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Seiler will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery with military honors accorded by area servicemen&8217;s organizations. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Peter C. Vanderploeg was born on May 17, 1931 in Crookston, the son of Richard and Marie (Middle) Vanderploeg. He served his country in the U. S. Army for two years, and then went to trade school in Fargo, N.D., where he met his beautiful wife of 50 years. On September 8, 1956, Peter was married to Kathleen Rust in Casselton, N.D.
Peter lived in southern Minnesota most of his life. He owned and operated a body shop. Peter and Kathleen were foster parents for 27 years. They also volunteered in a children&8217;s home in Georgia for eight years. Peter was a former member of the Wesleyan Church and had served there as an interim pastor. He was currently a member of Faith Baptist Church and a former member of the Y&8217;s Men. He enjoyed camping, volunteering, and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen; children Lowell (Kathy) Vanderploeg of Grinnell, Iowa; Jimmy (Cherie) Vanderploeg of Naples, Fla.; Donald (Leone) Vanderploeg of Glenville; and Brenda (Scott) Ellenberger of Colombia City, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; brothers and sisters Winifred Meelker, Sadie (William) DeBoer, Ray (Maxine) Vanderploeg and Jeanette Vande Brake; and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Cornelius.
