Twins made the right choices

We&8217;d like to note a little sidestory in the Interstate 35W bridge calamity. The Minnesota Twins made some wise decisions last week and deserve credit for their moves.
The evening of the bridge collapse the Twins kept fans in the seats and the game against the Kansas City Royals was played. It would have been difficult and unwise to have the Metrodome crowd released back onto the public streets during the horrific infrastructure breakdown. It was an emotional night, with a moment of silence during the game, but they kept playing.
On Thursday, the game against the Royals was canceled and will be resceduled for a later date. That day the Twins were planning to hold a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of a new ballpark. Thursday definitely was not the right day to celebrate a new stadium considering the nature of events in Minneapolis. And surely the downtown traffic would have hampered recovery efforts. Again, the Twins made the right decision.
By Friday, downtown Minneapolis was ready for baseball. The Twins played the Cleveland Indians in the Metrodome. The Friday night game was a needed distraction for a city and state that was coming to terms with the bridge collapse.
