Edna Hassler of Albert Lea

The memorial service for Edna Hassler of 1201 Garfield, Albert Lea, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation with her family will be one hour before the service.

Edna died Thursday Sept. 20, 2007, at Thornecrest Retirement Home.

Edna Hassler was born Aug. 29, 1916, in Ellsworth, to Peter and Edna (Smook) DeBoer. She attended school in Ellsworth. Edna was married to Harvey Hassler on Dec. 6, 1947.

Edna worked as a waitress at the American Legion for nine years, the VFW for five years and several other places in Albert Lea. She worked at Streater before retiring in 1981.

Edna had been active at the Albert Lea Senior Center where she played bingo, cards and did crafts; she belonged to the VFW Auxiliary, Legion Auxiliary and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She loved reading, playing cards, going to the casino, gardening, flowers and sitting outside. Edna loved to travel, having traveled to Norway, Florida, the East Coast, Canada and especially Oregon and taking several cruises. She enjoyed having her grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit.

Survivors include her sons: Richard Lawyer and his wife Audrey of Scappoose, Ore.; Dale Lawyer and his wife Betty of Trail, Ore., daughter Jeannette Lawyer of Albert Lea and daughter Lynda Harig and her husband Lonnie of Emmons, sister Fern Visker of Sioux Falls, S.D. and brother Edward DeBoer of Luverne; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harvey in 1982, her brothers Harm, John, Jake, Hilko, Henry, Peter, Otto and Tom; one sister, Gertrude Koppman; daughter-in-law Patricia Lawyer and grandson Kevin Lawyer.
