Teachers receive donations from Ian Thompson Memorial Scholarship Committee

On Sept. 13, members of the Ian Thompson Memorial Scholarship Committee met with the four elementary English Language Learners

teachers in District 241 &8212; Cassandra Chandler (Lakeview), Annie Mattson (Hawthorne), Amy Lerum (Halverson) and Mindy Neid (Sibley) &8212; to present each with $100 from the Ian Thompson Memorial Fund.

This money is donated in the name of Ian Thompson, an ELL teacher at Lakeview Elementary who passed away last fall after a battle with cancer. The scholarship committee has asked that the money be used to provide something extra or special to the students in the ELL programs at each elementary school that otherwise would not be available.

The second portion of the Ian Thompson Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in the spring to a graduating senior from Albert Lea Area School. Both portions of the scholarship will be awarded annually.

Members of the Ian Thompson Memorial Scholarship Committee include Toby and Marge Thompson, Jason Fornwald, Cory Alfson, Larry Rassler, Eric Hudspith, Tom Dyrdal and Mark Blong.
