Aldis H. &8220;Al&8221; Johnson, 83, of Faribault, died on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2007, at Infinia at Faribault Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church, Faribault, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Steven Delzer officiating.
Interment will be at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Albert Lea, at 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be at the Boldt Funeral Home today from 3:30 to 7 p.m. and also at the church one hour prior to the service.
Aldis Hollis Johnson was born Feb. 28, 1924, at Austin, the son of John and Anna (Myran) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Houston Lutheran Church, Houston. He attended elementary school in rural Houston.
He graduated from Houston High School in 1943. Al served in the US Air Force during World War II. He was an active 4-H and FFA member. He served as State FFA president 1942-43. He attended the University of Minnesota &045; Ag Campus and Iowa State at Ames, Iowa.
Al began working for the Soil Conservation Service, USDA in 1946. The following 34 years he spent working for S.C.S. in the following Minnesota Counties: Houston, Winona, Steele, Freeborn, Swift and Rice. He then worked 13 years in the Rice County Assessor&8217;s office and six years as an appraiser with Hoysler Associates. He also served as bailiff in Rice County District Court.
He was united in marriage to Gladys Wittmer on Sept. 25, 1955, at Concordia Lutheran Church in rural Freeborn County. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2005. He was a charter member of Our Savior&8217;s Lutheran Church of Faribault. He served as president and on many committees of that church. He served about 20 years on the Rice County Fair Board and also was on the original committee forming the River Bend Nature Center.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two children, Linda (and Dan) Freitag of Verona, Wis., and Brian (and LouJean) Johnson of Owatonna; and five grandchildren, Michael, Robbie and Katie Freitag and Sara and Lauren Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Allen.
