KIMT Television will have a new anchor on the KIMT News 3 set Sunday evening.
Midwesterner Dave Hansen is returning from working in the South. He has been selected to anchor the evening newscasts, announced John &8220;JJ&8221; Murray, KIMT news director. &8220;We are excited to have such an outstanding broadcast journalist joining our team.&8221;
Hansen refers to it as &8220;coming home.&8221; He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and moved to Rochester as a young boy. He&8217;s a Midwest guy who is &8220;happy to be back in the area,&8221; he said.
A KIMT news release states he is a veteran broadcast journalist, equally at home in the field or behind the anchor desk. It says he is an accomplished writer and an award-winning reporter and anchor.
Hansen began his broadcast career at KRPR-FM at Rochester University Center and could also be heard on KROC-AM and FM. He was a broadcast journalism major and earned a bachelor&8217;s degree from St. Cloud State University.
His TV career includes stops in Minneapolis; Omaha, Neb.; and Jacksonville, Fla. Most recently he served as the senior reporter and weekend anchor at the ABC affiliate in Augusta, Ga. He covered crime, courts and was an investigative reporter.
During his career, Hansen has enjoyed being a part of his community. Of all the activities he has done, his favorite was the reading program in Omaha, where he spent time reading to local kindergartners.
&8220;It was payback for me,&8221; Hansen said. &8220;I always enjoyed reading when I was in school and it really helped that I was read to at a young age.&8221;
You&8217;ll find him biking, spending time with family and enjoying music, the news release states.
