Lake Mills comes up short

LAKE MILLS, Iowa &8212; Although they continued to run the ball at will again Friday night, out gaining their opponents 371-73 on the ground, it wasn&8217;t enough for the Lake Mills football team to overcome a 28-20 loss to Mason City Newman.

Jake Brekken put the Bulldogs in front 6-0 in the first quarter on a two yard dive but LM wouldn&8217;t find the endzone again until the fourth when it evened the score at 20-20 before giving up the winning score late in the game for the loss.

The Bulldogs had 387 total yards for the night to MCN&8217;s 273 but came up short in moving the chains with 11 firstdowns to Newman&8217;s 18.

Brekken ran for two scores and 59 yards while Brent Bjelland had a night to remember with 200 yards on just 11 carries and one TD.

With the loss the Bulldogs fall to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in district 3. MCN remains the only unbeaten team in the district with a 3-0 mark, 6-0 overall.
