No. 10 Vikings run record to a perfect 5-0

GRAETTINGER &8212; The Northwood-Kensett football team remained perfect on the season with another dominating rushing performance that led to a 35-6 win Friday.

The 10h-ranked Vikings pounded out 260 yards on the ground and 324 yards of total offense while the N-K defense allowed just 161 yards. Brock Johnson ran for 70 yards while Michael Bachtle had 46.

Bachtle scored the Vikings&8217; first two touchdowns, both coming on on 1-yard runs before Graettinger&8217;s Jake Hoffman scored on an 8-yard pass to make the score 14-6.

However Bachtle would find the end zone, once again from a yard out, with just four seconds left in the first half to take the momentum back.

Michael Steiff scored on a 6-yard run for the Vikings in the third quarter and Ryan Mueller scored from two yards out in the fourth to complete the scoring for the Vikings.

The Vikings&8217; defense forced three turnovers with a fumble recovery by Bachtle and two interceptions from Jake Weisert. Bachtle&8217;s big game also included a team-leading 13 tackles.

Weisert hit on just 2 of 10 passes for N-K but one was a 41-yard pitch-and-catch to Jacob Gordon.

The 5-0 Vikings are in Algona Friday to face Bishop-Garrigan.

St. Ansgar 10, Lake Mills 7

ST. ANSGAR &8212; The Lake Mills football team dug itself a 10-0 first-half hole against St. Ansgar and wasn&8217;t able to get out falling 10-7.

The Bulldog&8217;s lone score came in the third quarter when Steve Hengesteg reeled in a 33-yard pass from Brent Bjelland. Bjelland finished the game with 133 yards through the air.

Lake Mills was limited to just 76 yards on the ground while the Bulldogs could not stop St. Ansgar&8217;s ground attack which rolled for 245 yards. St. Ansgar&8217;s defense countered with a pair of interceptions.

After connecting on a 31-yard field goal in the first quarter, St. Ansgar added a touchdown when Logan Cimmiyoti ran to the end zone from 19 yards out.

The Bulldogs (3-2) host a tough Mason City Newman squad for homecoming Friday.
