WATERVILLE &8212; The United South Central football team continues to find the postseason to its liking. A week after avenging a regular season loss to New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, the Rebels did the same against Waterville-Elysian-Morristown with a 12-7 section semifinal win Saturday.

The Rebels fumbled the ball on their first possession and WEM would score on a 14-yard pass play to go up 7-0 in the first quarter.

However, those were the only points the USC defense would give up.

The Rebels held the Bucs rushing attack to 49 yards in the game and came up with one big stop after another including a big stand deep in their own territory in the fourth quarter.

USC would pull within one point in the second quarter when quarterback Riley Swearingen found Jake Sonnek on a 5-yard scoring strike.

The Rebels would take the lead in the third when they strung together a 12-play drive capped by a Jake Bonsack 1-yard run to put USC up 12-7.

&8220;The big difference between this game and the one in the regular season was turnovers,&8221; USC head coach Brent Schimek said.

Swearingen finished the game going 11 of 21 for 104 yards through the air as the two teams were separated by just five total yards in the game.

USC (3-7) will face No. 7 Triton in the section final Friday in Dodge City with a trip to the state tournament on the line.

&8220;They are very good on offense so we will have to be patient and play bend but don&8217;t break,&8221; Schimek said. &8220;But we have nothing to lose now.&8221;
