Wolverines still looking for a win

NICOLLET &8212; The Wolverines of Glenville-Emmons are still looking for that first win of the year after they were shutout for the first time this season 52-0 at Nicollet. G-E was looking forward to this game as it had beaten Nicollet for its only win a year ago. Two of the Wolverines three wins the past two years had been against the Raiders.

It got ugly early for the Wolverine defense when they surrendered 21 first quarter points and then seemed to lose focus, trailing 35-0 at the half.

&8220;I truly think they have started to lose heart,&8221; said Wolverines head coach Derek Nelson. &8220;I don&8217;t know what it was, but we just weren&8217;t up for tonight&8217;s game. I think these kids have forgotten who they are and how Glenville-Emmons is supposed to play the game, right now that&8217;s our biggest problem.&8221;

Once again after falling behind big in the first half the Wolverines defense played a pretty good second half, giving up only 17 points. But the young offense continued to struggle and failed to put points on the board and accounted for six costly turnovers. Garrett Schumaker did the bulk of the work for G-E on the ground with 17 carries for 52 yards.

With the disappointing loss the Wolverines remain winless on the year at 0-6 and it won&8217;t get any easier as they travel to Alden Friday to take on the Knights who are coming off two consecutive wins.
