Yvonne Tews, 77, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Yvonne C. Tews, 77, formerly of Myrtle, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle. The Rev. Lydia Mittag will officiate. Interment will be in Pilgrim&8217;s Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Yvonne died on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since last January.

Yvonne Corinne Tews was born on Sept. 15, 1930, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Clyde and Corinne (Hendrickson) Davis. She had been a lifelong resident of Freeborn County apart from three years spent in Northwood, Iowa, after her retirement.

She was a graduate of Northwood High School in the Class of 1948. Following school she worked as a cook at Naeve Hospital. On April 1, 1956, Yvonne was united in marriage to Leonard Tews at the Deer Creek Valley Lutheran Church. She and Leonard farmed near Myrtle for many years, both dairy and crop farming. They also raised and butchered chickens and delivered eggs in the Myrtle area. Shortly after their marriage they served as foster parents. In addition to being a farm wife, Yvonne worked as a day care provider and a home health aide for Freeborn County Public Health. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where her activities included being a past president of the Ladies Aid, a Sunday school teacher, member of the church council and a custodian. She and Leonard also mowed the Pilgrim&8217;s Rest Cemetery for many years. Yvonne was also a member of the Glenville Senior Citizens, and was a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed cooking and feeding people and was well known for her pies and her potato salad.

Survivors include her husband Leonard of Albert Lea; children Henry (Becky) Tews of Myrtle and Holly (Bob) Krier of Glenville; grandchildren Heather (Zach) Wynia of Northwood, Tyler Tews of Northwood, Brittany Tews of Myrtle, Spencer and Nicholas Krier of Glenville, Mandy (Travis) Schultz of LaCrosse, Wis., and Nancy (Steve) Franck of LaCrosse, Wis.; great-grandchildren Kail and Karlee Wynia, Dylan Tews, and Olivia Schultz; brothers Emery Davis and Laurell (Clarice) Davis, both of rural Glenville; sisters-in-law Margie Davis of rural Glenville and Esther Kirk of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son Curt; her brothers Curtis Davis and Alton (Arliss) Davis; sister-in-law Clarice Davis; and brothers-in-law Leon Tews and Jens Kirk.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Pilgrim&8217;s Rest Cemetery.
