Dan Mayfield, pastor of Owatonna Church of Christ will officiate at the afternoon service. Friends may greet his family one hour before at the funeral home.
David was born into this world Sept. 8, 1958, in Albert Lea into a humble and hard working family. The fourth and last child born to Lloyd Van Guilder and Katherine Jane Christenson Van Guilder. David grew up and attended school in Albert Lea until 1975, when inspired by his patriotic father he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany for two years. After his discharge he returned home to Albert Lea, where he joined the ranks of many of his family and went to work for Wilson&8217;s Foods. He continued his education in welding and motorcycle mechanics. David was good at what he did and mastered each of his many varied and interesting vocations.
In and around the year of 1990 he found his way to Owatonna where he met and fell in love with Sheila Besaw and together they created the joy of his life, Cherie&8217; Lynn. He most recently was employed with Viracon until 1999 when he was involved in and survived a near fatal car crash. In spite of this David persevered and lived a full and exciting life. David will be remembered for his hard work ethic, his creative energy and sense of humor that he brought to every thing in his life. He was a good human being, and will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him. And simply because he was memorable guy and a great friend.
He is survived by: his daughter, Cherie&8217;; her mother, Sheila Alspach of Morris; mother, Katherine Van Guilder; brother, Lloyd and his wife Diane and brother, Lee, and his wife Jean, all of
Albert Lea; sister Kay Thompson of Owatonna; and nieces and nephews.
David&8217;s father Lloyd preceded him in death July 1992.
Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Church of Christ.
