Editorial: Let winter come

Weather is good when a season acts like its season: Summer sunshine, spring rains, autumn colors and winter snow.
Right now, the mercury alternates above and below freezing. The leaves are gone, but there is no snow.
What season are we in?
Technically, it is autumn. Winter doesn&8217;t start until Dec. 21. But this present weather could be called the in-between season.
Weather is awful when it is in-between. This brown and gray blandness of no particular season usually happens in the switches from warm to cold and cold to warm.
The outdoors will be more enjoyable when the lakes and streams freeze and the ground is covered in snow. Let winter be winter so everyone can enjoy the outdoor activities, such as ice fishing, ice hockey, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and, of course, snowball fighting.
And let&8217;s wish for a white Christmas, unlike last year, when Albert Lea experienced a brown, in-between-seasons Christmas.
