HOLLANDALE &8212; The excitement of the Hollandale Christian School&8217;s recently concluded annual soccer tournament will always be remembered by the students who played and the people who watched.
This event happened on the sunny day Sept. 28 at Hollandale Christian School&8217;s soccer field. Six games were played, each being 30 minutes long.
The seventh- and eighth-graders from HCS challenged other Christian junior high students in the area.
The schools in attendance were: St. Paul Lutheran from Latimer, Iowa, Kanawha Christian School from Kanawha, Iowa and Timothy Christian School from Wellsburg, Iowa.
Daniel Mondeel was the goalie for HCS&8217;s first game against St. Paul. The game was decided when Annabelle Randall made the one and only goal in the HCS victory.
The next game at Kanawha versus Timothy which ended up in a 0-0 tie.
The tension was building as Kanawha awaited a game against St. Paul in the next matchup. Kanawha rejoiced in its hard earned 2-0 victory.
Hollandale next faced Timothy, who was considered a big rival from previous years, and HCS&8217;s worries subsided as it pulled ahead with yet another win.
The only score was made by Bennett Stadheim making the score 1-0.
Brady Ebert, the goalie, made several wonderful saves.
Next, the Timothy students defeated the St. Paul team in a close game of 2-1.
The final game decided who would receive the much desired trophy. It was a face-off between HCS and Kanawha. If the game resulted in a win for Kanawha it would win the soccer tournament and take the trophy. If it was a tie, or HCS earned the victory, HCS would receive the trophy.
HCS was confident but slightly nervous at the thought of losing when it had come this far.
HCS&8217;s team pulled together, and Bryce DeBoer scored four consecutive goals, turning the game in HCS&8217;s favor as it won 4-0.
Hollandale was ecstatic because all of its practicing had indeed paid off, and no goals had been scored on them. HCS gives a big thanks to their coaches Todd Schoonover, Jason Schoonover and Teresa Anderson.
