Jean Groe, 82, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Jean Groe, 82, of Albert Lea, will be at 10 a.m. Monday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Jean died peacefully at her daughter&8217;s home

in Albert Lea on Friday, Nov. 16, 2007.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1925, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Dwight and Hazel (Havlic) Armstrong.

Jean graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1942. She worked for her father in his chiropractic office, then at Skinner Chamberlin.

She married Donald L. Groe on Aug. 24, 1957, in Albert Lea.

While her four children were growing up, she enjoyed being home for her family. After the kids were grown she worked for Cornicks/Thornecrest Care Center for many years before retiring in 1990.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she had been active in circle, ladies aid, altar guild and Stephens Ministry. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, knitting and being with her family especially her grandchildren.

Her holiday cooking and fruitcakes will always be a special memory.

She is survived by four children: Leigh Wiley and his wife Caryl of River Falls, Wis., Peggy Groeneweg and her husband Marty of Albert Lea, Marna Groe of Oronoco, and Patti Groe of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Jason, Nathan, Jillian, Andy, Courtney, Donielle, Madison, Emily and Maci; brother Robert Armstrong and his wife Margaret of Sparks, Nev.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Evie Fjelstad, Louise Groe, Maxine Groe, Arlen and Rhodette Groe, Carmen and Melbourne Butler, Duane and Laurene Groe, Ila Groe; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald, in 1990.
