Mavis Frank, 79, Preston

Mavis Irene Frank, 79, of rural Preston, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Nov. 13, 2007, at her home.

Mavis was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Forestville Township, Fillmore County, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Vrieze) Lentz. She attended country school and was a 1946 graduate of Spring Valley High School. She married Lyle Frank Dec. 18, 1946, at Bloomfield Lutheran Church in rural Ostrander. The couple farmed for themselves since 1948 in rural Spring Valley and then in 1958 they moved to a farm southwest of Preston. She worked for the Rochester Women&8217;s Shelter for three years and continued to volunteer there for a number of years.

Mavis was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Preston where she was active in its women&8217;s groups. Mavis enjoyed singing with her husband at weddings and funerals and in church choirs. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, acrylic painting, gardening, crafts and was a gifted sewer. She was a wonderful cook and was known to invite everyone who stopped by to dinner.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lyle; two daughters, LaDonna (Jack) Kranz of St. Charles, and Carolyn Frank of Olympia, Wash.; three sons, Noel (Noel Quale) Frank of Owatonna, Carlton (Gina) Frank of Walters, and Chris (Tracy Clark) Frank of Custer, S.D.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Bernice Root of Spring Valley, Frances Passe of Rochester, Carol Jean (Ernest) Meyer Jr. of Wykoff, and Arlone Crowson of Hastings. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; and two brothers.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston with the Rev. James Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery in rural Ostarander. Friends may call at the Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday and at the church on Friday an hour before the service. The family prefers memorials to the donors choice. Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston is in charge of arrangements.
