To celebrate the completion of the Katherine Island Bridge project, Albert Lea city officials will have an official ribbon cutting Friday at 4 p.m. on the island.
The public is invited.
During the project, the wooden bridge, which has been in place since the late &8217;40s or early &8217;50s, was replaced with a single-span weathered steel bridge constructed by Pro Manufacturing of Albert Lea.
The bridge was set in place on Dec. 13 by Sunram Construction and Pro Manufacturing.
The project also entailed erosion control on the island through the use of Gabion baskets &8212; which are made of steel wire mesh, laced together and filled with stones.
