G-E sweeps past MSAD

GLENVILLE &8212; Both Glenville-Emmons basketball teams posted wins over the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf Thursday.
The girls were 48-35 winners while the boys opened up their season with a 56-50 win.
The girls started the game slow but rode their defense in the first half before the offense came to life after halftime.
Molly Kral and Jordyn VanRyswyk led the Wolverines with 12 points apiece with VanRyswyk adding 10 rebounds to record a double-double for the second straight game.
G-E got contributions from several players as it improved its record to 2-3 on the season.
The boys were led by Michael Thofson who poured in 17 points including three 3-pointers.
The Wolverines had a good night behind the arc connecting on 10 3s in the game with Garrett Schumaker, Ryan Dempewolf and Jake Kirsch each hitting a pair of 3s.
Schumaker had 11 points and Kirsch finished with nine to help the Wolverines&8217; cause.
G-E went into halftime with a three point lead and was able to keep the advantage despite having to deal with foul trouble much of the night.
Wolverines&8217; assistant coach Ranger Hall guided G-E to the win as head coach Dan Fredrickson served the first of a four-game suspension as punishment for violating rules during a summer league.
Both teams are on the road to face Mabel-Canton tonight.
