No. 7 Tiger wrestlers continue their early roll

KASSON &8212; For the second time in a week the Albert Lea wrestling team came out on top of a close dual with Plainview-Elgin-Millville Saturday.

The seventh-ranked Tigers downed No. 5 PEM 35-32 after tying them last week and winning on the sixth creitera of takedowns. However, the Tigers had the dual decided heading into the heavyweight match this time around.

Third-ranked Cory Hansen got the Tigers off to a good start with a 15-0 technical fall over Aaron Haley at 103. Dalton Westerland stepped in at 112 and earned a 10-4 decision over Chandler Bacon 10-4 before top-ranked Cody Hansen earned a major decision over fifth-ranked Ben Swanson to get the Tigers off to a 12-0 lead after three weights.

Sixth-ranked Greg Neschansky pinned Albert Lea&8217;s Kyle Kriewall at 125 before 10th-ranked Trevor Rasmussen got those points back with a pin in 5:14.

The two teams again traded points in the next two weights with PEM getting a pin at 135, but third-ranked Logan Kortan earned a technical fall over Ethan Carlson 17-1 at 140.

Anthony Tippett may have had the biggest win of the dual for the Tigers when he downed No. 4 Blaine Miller 3-1. After Jordan Holland lost by technical fall, Logan Hansen earned a 5-3 win at 171 over No. 7 Zach Peterson to make the score 29-20 in favor of the Tigers.

Darren Wingert tightened the score to 20-26 with a pin of Jon Kluver, but No. 7 Ethan Reed iced the win for the Tigers with a pin of Nick Johnson at 215. Albert Lea forfeited at heavyweight.

Albert Lea would complete a perfect day winning their final two duals beating No. 12 Kasson-Mantorville 39-20 and Caldonia 65-12.

The Tigers started well against Kasson with Cory Hansen downing Stephen O&8217;Brien 13-1 before Cody Hansen won a battle of No. 1s. He downed 103 Class AA top-ranked Garret Garness 4-2 in overtime.

Against Caledonia, Cory and Cody Hansen, Kreiwall, Rasmussen, Logan Kortan, Mitch Webb, Kluver and Reed all won by pin.
