Panthers finish third at Dick Schiels Invitational

FARIBAULT &8212; The 12th-ranked New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team finished third at the Dick Schiels Invitational over the weekend. The Panthers finished with 192 points while New Ulm won with 199.5 and Eastview was second with 196.

Colton Schlaak won the Panthers first title on the day winning at 145 in a hard-fought match 2-1 over Faribault&8217;s Brandon Roach at 145.

Top-ranked Gaven Schlaak was the Panthers other champion winning at 171 where he downed Farmington&8217;s Joel Adrian 7-2 in the finals.

Alex Moen finished as the runner-up at 130 losing to Northfield&8217;s Tristan Faust in the finals 7-1.

Seventh-ranked Tim Bartness also lost in the finals at 152. He was downed by New Ulm&8217;s top-ranked Adam Hoffmann. The Panthers&8217; Colton Eustice was a finalist at 160 where he was downed by Spring Valley&8217;s Trent Larrieu 15-0.

NRHEG&8217;s Aaron Haggerty had a battle with New Ulm&8217;s Pat Brinkman in the finals of 215 but came up on the wrong end of a 3-1 decision.

Josh Schroeder was a fourth place finisher at 125 for NRHEG, Dustin Esplan just missed third at 103 falling 4-3 and David Lindell was third at 189 pinning Nick Williams of Faribault in 38 seconds.

Matt Bartsch (140) took fifth while Brandon Espe (135) and Erik Olson (285) were sixth place finishers.
