Third-ranked Rebels go 1-3

The third-ranked United South Central wrestling team went 1-3 this weekend at the Battle on the Border where six of the top seven Class A teams faced off in dual action.
The Rebels began the day with a 36-22 loss to second-ranked Canby.
Dustin Dylla lost a 4-2 overtime decision at 103 for the Rebels, but Zach Wigern won by forfeit at 112 to give USC its only lead of the dual at 6-3.
Fourth-ranked Seth Amberg was a 6-1 winner over No. 2 Dan Deslauriers at 130, Matt Wood earned a 5-4 decision at 140, but Canby&8217;s third-ranked Alex Kontz slipped by Dan Sandt at 145 3-2.
USC&8217;s top-ranked Jake Bonsack downed Austin Citrowske 7-3 before Nathan Goette (171) and Nick Stevermer (189) both won to pull the Rebels to within five at 27-22 but Canby won the final two weights to close it out.
The Rebels would fall to sixth-ranked Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 34-27 in the second round.
The Rebels built a 24-14 lead getting pins from Wigern at 119, Preston Staloch at 125 and Amberg at 130.
Bonsack moved up to 160 where he lost to No. 3 Mitch Hagen 3-1, but Nathan Goette kept USC in the lead 27-22 with a 5-1 decision at 171.
However, KMS won the final three matches to take the win.
The Rebels would bounce back with a 36-24 win over No. 6 Yellow Medicine East.
Amberg, Nick Stevermer and Mike Linder each had pins for the Rebels.
The Rebels concluded the tournament with a 36-25 loss to top-ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.
Dylla, Amberg, Wood, Bonsack, Stevermer and Linder had wins for USC.
