Wilbert F. Dumke, 94, of Wells, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007 at the Parkview Care Center in Wells. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Wells.
Wilbert F. Dumke was born on Oct. 6, 1913 in Dunbar Township, the son of Otto F. and Amanda (Tatge) Dumke. He grew up in the Wells area and attended Country School District 121. On June 28, 1939 he married Evelyn A. Prange at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wells. They farmed for many years in rural Wells. Retiring in 1982, they moved into Wells. He worked many years at Heitner and Bruss-Heitner Funeral Homes and drove school bus. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he was a head usher and council member, he served on the board of directors for Wells Electric Association, Wells Shipping and the Co-op Power Association in Minneapolis; he was secretary of Mutual Life Insurance, and was a member of the Wells Sportsman Club. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards, wintering in Arizona for 18 years and traveling all over the world.
He is survived by nine nieces and nephews: Kenneth and wife Janet Ayers, Manville and wife Barb Ayers, Clarence and wife Janice Ayers, all of Albert Lea; Joyce and husband Tim Heidtman of Choctaw, Okla., Kathy Ayers of Wells; Bob and wife Missy Prange of North Mankato; Lois and husband Robert Brandt of Brooklyn Park; Mark Schultz of Janesville; Tim and wife Laura Schultz of Waseca.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Evelyn in 2005; one sister, Esmarilda Schultz-Nelson and her husband Elvoy Schultz; one niece: Marjorie Schultz; and one nephew, Harlan Schultz brothers and sisters-in-law Henry and Linda Prange, Clarence and Leona Prange, Hubert and Alice Ayers.
