The Albert Lea B Bantams sponsored by the Albert Lea Moose, recently participated in the Blazing Blades Hockey tournament in Luverne bringing home second place.
Albert Lea saw Sioux City in the first game of the tournament.
Although the boys had spent a great deal of time for the ride over, they came out skating and shooting from the very beginning.
Albert Lea placed 35 shots on goal netting nine, with Thomas Furland getting a hat trick plus one for four goals.
Tanner Beddow netted two goals and an assist and Tyler Osmundson had a goal and an assist. Jared Hogstad and Wyeth Anderson each contributed for a goal apiece.
Shane Johnson contributed an assist and Ben Enger received the playmaker by having three assists in the opening game.
Jordan Fitzlaff was in the net receiving the shut out to place the boys in great position.
Albert Lea next beat Pierre, S.D. 5-0.
Albert Lea placed 47 shots on goal with five of them falling for goals while Griffin Wangen would hold off all shots to earn the second shutout of the tournament.
Albert Lea&8217;s offense was lead by Furland who netted four goals and assisted the goal by Alex Reule. Hunter Distad, Trent Bellrichard and Jared Hogstad all had assists to the Furland goals.
Fast skates, hard hits and quick hands by Ben Enger, Andre&8217; Purdie, Josh Kelly, Osmundson and Johnson kept the Pierre players to only six shots on goal.
Picking up the second win of the tournament, but more importantly never allowing a goal, the Albert Lea team was seeded first and received a bye placing them in the championship game.
In the championship game, Albert Lea was matched up with Luverne. A strong game by all of the boys simply wasn&8217;t enough to stop the home team who handed Albert Lea a 7-0 loss and second place.
Albert Lea was outshot 9-2 in the first period, 12-4 in the second period and 7-3 in the third.
Albert Lea was taken off its game by questionable calls that cost two of the seven goals and the loss of a defenseman in the first period.
Fitzlaff remained strong in the net capturing 21 saves and the rest of the team continued to play a strong game.
Albert Lea returned home with a very strong second place win and some hardware for the trophy case. Albert Lea B Bantams would like to thank the Albert Lea Moose for the continued support and invite everyone to come cheer them on as the season begins to wind down.
