Bertrand Blom, 87, Bricelyn

Bertrand &8220;Bert&8221; Jerome Blom, 87, of Bricelyn, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church in Brush Creek Township, Faribault County. The Rev. Ed Nieman will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the North Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery.

Bert Blom was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Seely Township, Faribault County, the son of Ben and Johanna (Mork) Blom. He was confirmed at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church and graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1938. He attended the University of Minnesota College of Agriculture and continued with a lifelong career as a farmer near Brush Creek. Bert married Marjorie Monson on July 8, 1951, at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church. He served various positions on the North Blue Earth Church Council and was a member on the Bricelyn Elevator Association Board. He also served as Brush Creek Township Board treasurer. He raised purebred Shorthorn cattle for a number of years. Bert enjoyed time spent with family and friends, and coffee times at Brush Creek.

He is survived by three sons: Paul (Marsha) Blom and Morris Blom of Bricelyn and Bryan (Tammy) Blom of Byron; five grandchildren: Melanie (Victor) Ferris of Minneapolis, Mark Blom of Bricelyn, Megan (Nathan) Eitzmann of Hardy, Neb., and Andrea and Kristin Blom of Byron; one sister, Sylvia Wulff of Albert Lea; one brother-in-law, Gene Monson of Portland, Ore.; and two nephews, Roger (Lynette) Brooks of Okemos, Mich., and David Brooks of Bricelyn.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Blom; parents, Ben and Johanna Blom; one sister, Cassandra Blom; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ila and Ivan Brooks.

Memorials are preferred to North Blue Earth Lutheran Church or to the Bricelyn Rescue Squad.
