Dorothy M. Newman, age 87, of Alden, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. The Rev. Greg Ofsdahl will officiate and burial will be in Alden Cemetery, Alden, Freeborn County.
Dorothy M. Newman was born Nov. 22, 1920, the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Jordan) Jacobs. She worked at an airplane factory in California in 1940 and 1941. On April 9, 1945, she married Elmer C. Newman at Grace Lutheran Church in Alden. She worked at Banquet Foods for over 20 years.
Dorothy was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, canning, baking, entertaining friends and family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Gary (Eunice) Newman of Alden, Steven (Cheryl) Newman of Alden, and Sharon (Daryl) Mattson of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Kevin (Deb), and their children, Kaitlyn and Matt, of North Mankato, Kory (Amy) and their children, Alexa, Ashley, and Alivia of Alden, Kristi (Casey) Soost and their children Autumn, Dugan, and Brooke, of rural Alden, Amy Newman (friend Tom Wentzel) of Alden, Marci (Trent) Wangen and their child, Mason, of Hartland, Stephanie Newman (friend Scott Soost) of Alden, Kaylee Newman of Alden, Natalie (Rick) Loock of Albert Lea, Tiffany (Nick) Niebuhr and their child, Levi, of Minnesota Lake, and Brett Mattson (fianc/ Ashley Chrz) of Rochester; sisters: Anna Jahnke of Alden and Delores Jacobs of Alden; brothers: Albert Jacobs of Alden and Donald Jacobs of Manchester; sister-in-law, Olive Newman of Anaheim, Calif., and Leona Newman of rural Alden.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer C. Newman on Jan. 21, 2006; her parents: Edward and Bertha; her brothers: Jim and Elmer; her sisters: Thelma and Marie; and her great-grandson, Amos Soost.
