Freeborn Co. growers offer scholarships

The Freeborn County Corn and Soybean Growers is offering two $1,000 scholarships for students pursuing an agricultural degree in college. All information must be typed and mailed before the deadline on March 1.

Applicants should be from a family who is active in agriculture, a resident of Freeborn County, graduating from high school in the spring of 2008, provide a high school transcript, and pursuing an education in agriculture, agribusiness or a food science related program in a two, four, three or technical college. Applicants must provide a one paragraph summary of career plans and how they relate to agriculture. They must give a summary of their involvement in agriculture and community organizations.

If a recipient decides to wait to enter college, The Freeborn County Corn and Soybean Growers should be notified. The scholarship will be held until the student meets the college attendance requirement.

Supply a typed letter of recommendation from a community member (non-relative).

A scholarship that does not contain all required components will be discarded and not considered.

Two scholarship will be awarded on a merit basis only. Recipients will receive half of the scholarship when schedule of classes is received and half upon their completion of their first semester or quarter of college. Individuals will only be awarded one scholarship. Decisions by the scholarship committee are final.
