Hulda Isabelle (Rider) Klingbeil was born July 6, 1906, in Nimrod. Parents were Gustav and Charlotte Rider. Hulda and her siblings lived in a one-room log cabin until the children were abandoned by their mother, at which time she and two other siblings were placed in the Minnesota State Orphanage in Owatonna. Hulda was age nine. Six months later she was indentured near Bricelyn with William and Ada Sens where she resided until age 18 when she moved back to Nimrod. Hulda had five brothers, Harry, George, Frank, August and LeRoy; and three sisters, Isabelle, Millie and Violet, all of whom preceded her in death.

She married Silas Klingbeil on Oct. 7, 1925, at Rice Lake Evangelical Church.

After their marriage, they farmed the Klingbeil homestead until they moved to Bricelyn in 1951. Bricelyn was home until Hulda moved to the Shepherd&8217;s Inn in Wells, in 1993 and then to Infinia of Owatonna in June of 1999. She suffered from severe dementia the last several years. Her roommate for the last five years of her life, Dorothy Novak, served as her friend and spokesperson when Hulda could no longer speak. The family is lovingly indebted to Dorothy. Silas died in 1993 at age 95 after the couple had celebrated 68 years of marriage. Hulda was the last surviving member of that generation in her family as well as in her husband&8217;s family.

Hulda and Silas had three sons and one daughter. Their firstborn son, Marvin, preceded them in death in 1988. Surviving children are Ordean (Carmen) Klingbeil and Robert (Lorna) Klingbeil, both of Bricelyn, and Janice (Gerald) Clementson of Owatonna, and her daughter-in-law, Patti, of Littleton, Colo. Also preceding her in death was one grandson and one granddaughter was well as one great-granddaughter. Fourteen loving grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren survive their grandmother.

Hulda&8217;s hobbies included baking, quilt making, playing cards, crocheting, solving crossword puzzles, assembling jig-saw puzzles, and entertaining dinner guests. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember her for her delightful sense of humor, the unconditional love she freely gave and the delicious homemade rolls she so masterfully baked. Hulda was active in the Bricelyn Lutheran Church of which she was a member since 1951 and participated in many ladies&8217; church groups.
