Laura C. Pierce, 93, of Freeborn, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Albert Lea. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at West Freeborn Lutheran Church in rural Freeborn.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Burial will be in West Freeborn Cemetery in rural Freeborn.
Laura C. Pierce was born on July 11, 1914, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of Butler and Gertie (Hanson) Stene.
Laura graduated in 1932 from Scarville High School as salutatorian. She was a spelling bee champion and participated in the Iowa State Spelling Competition. She was a member of the West Freeborn Church WELCA. Her hobbies were working crossword puzzles and attending grandchildren and great-grandchildrens&8217; sporting events.
She is survived by daughter Marlene (husband Gene) Satre of Amboy; sons, Gary (wife Nancy) of Chaska, Neil (wife Candace) of Alden; 10 grandchildren, Nick of Chaska, Mitchell (wife Evelyn) of Oceanside, Calif., Pam Manno (husband Larry) of Burnsville, Brad (wife Christie) Satre of Mankato, Douglas (wife Renae) Satre of Eagle Lake, Bryan of Brooklyn Center, Holli Pierce of Brooklyn Center, Scott (wife Shawn) of Owatonna, Jeff (wife Tonya) of Chaska, and Jennifer Pierce of St. Paul; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Thelma Stene of Lake Mills, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Harold (Gabby); brothers George, Elmer, Harry and Roy Stene; sisters Martha Stene, Mildred Schmidthuber, Blanche Haugland and Maxine Gilson.
