Marie Gilbertson, 94, Albert Lea

Memorial services for Marie C. Gilbertson, 94, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Marie died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home.

Marie Christine Heiser Gilbertson was born Jan. 19, 1913, to Richard and Marie Abbe Heiser in Alden. When she was 1 year old, her parents moved to Fairmont where she later graduated from Fairmont High School and then attended teacher&8217;s training. She taught in rural schools for four years in Martin County.

On June 16, 1935, she married Everett Gilbertson in Algona, Iowa. Everett and Marie owned Commercial Wood Products in Albert Lea. Marie went on to further her education and earned a four-year teaching degree from Mankato State University. She taught in the Albert Lea Public School System for 14 years. Marie lived in Albert Lea most of her life and loved to sew, especially Barbie clothes. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett in December of 1977; brothers, Ernest Heiser, George Heiser and Robert Heiser; and a sister, Sylvia Heiser Sankey.

She is survived by four children: Sonja (Dan) Johnson, Vic (Kay) Gilbertson and Karen Gilbertson, all of Albert Lea, and Paul (Lynn) Gilbertson of Puyallup, Wash. Grandchildren are Peter Johnson of Eagle Lake, Lisa Johnson Sharpe of Albert Lea, Shelley Goldman and Mitch (Teresa) Gilbertson of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeff Gilbertson of Marina del Ray, Calif., Matt (Christine) Gilbertson of Calgary, Canada, and Kelsey (Kelly) Massey of Tacoma, Wash. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

The family thanks St. John&8217;s Lutheran Home for the wonderful care given to Marie.
