Tigers cant hold lead against Mayo

ROCHESTER &8212; The 13th-ranked Albert Lea girls&8217; hockey team got off to a great start against Big Nine Conference power Rochester Mayo going up 2-0 after the first period.

However, the Tigers did not get anything clicking after that and fell 4-2 to the Spartans Thursday.

Sophia Jepson scored the Tigers&8217; first goal off an assist from Jenna Christensen while Christensen scored unassisted to put Albert Lea up two.

The Spartans scored twice in the second period and two more times in the third for the win.

Albert Lea goalie Kelli Hanson did record 36 saves in net.

&8220;Once they started scoring we just seemed to get down and couldn&8217;t get going again,&8221; Albert Lea head coach Brian Blatti said.

Albert Lea is now 12-5 on the season and 7-4 in the Big Nine.
