USC dominates Hayfield Tourney

The fifth-ranked United South Central wrestling team put on a dominating performance at the Hayfield Tournament racking up 227 1/2 points to win. Lewiston-Altura was second with 167 points and Blue Earth was third with 146.

USC would crown an impressive eight individual champions on Saturday.

Dustin Dylla

got the Rebels rolling at 103 winning the title with a fall in 5:53, and Zach Wigern made it two titles in two weights for USC downing Lewiston&8217;s Dan Anderson 4-1 in the championship match.

Preston Staloch came from the middle of the bracket at 125 to post a pair off falls to reach the finals before winning 4-2 over top-seeded Nick Masching of Hayfield.

Fifth-ranked Seth Amberg recorded a pair of pins and a technical fall to overwhelm his competition at 130 including an early second period pin of Aaron Niles of Blooming Prairie in the championship match.

Top-ranked Jake Bonsack was equally impressive in his rout of the 140-pound bracket racking up two pins and a major decision to win.

Nathan Goette was challenged by Hayfield’s Paul Blanchard in the semifinals at 171, but was able to pull out the 13-10 win. He would follow that up with a 7-2 victory over Lewiston’s Logan Brand in the finals.

Nick Stevermer followed with a championship at 189 downing Lewiston’s Tony Becker 4-1 in the finals, and eighth-ranked Mike Linder held of Blue Earth&8217;s Jake Lee 4-3 in the championship round of the heavyweights to round out the champions for the Rebels.

Jake Herman recorded two pins to reach the finals at 152 before falling to Grand Meadow’s Mitchell Wolfgram by fall in 3:06. A.J. Dreyer overcame an early loss to finish third at 215.

USC is back in action Thursday when the Rebels face Waterville-Elysian-Morristown in Wells.
