The writers at the Albert Lea Tribune called around and asked local folks this question: &8220;What is your New Year&8217;s resolution?&8221;
Here are their answers:
&8220;My New Year&8217;s resolution, if I had one, is to more earnestly support the charities and the causes that make this a better world, so I expect to do some work for Youth for Christ and also to support our daughter&8217;s ministry in Croatia.&8221; &8212; retired Albert Lea resident Paul Overgaard, a former state representative
&8220;My resolution is to simplify my life and to focus my community activities, in other words do fewer things but do them better.&8221; &8212; Albert Lea lawyer Matt Benda
&8220;I want to teach my grandson to play chess.&8221;
&8212; Freeborn County Recorder Kelly Callahan

&8212; Clay Anderson, who said he drinks eight to 10 cans of diet pop every day. His goal is to drink four or less cans.
&8220;To put more into the people instead of the business side of the Salvation Army. It&8217;s time to put our time and our efforts into our church family &8212; the public that depends on us. Because the connection we make with the people is just as important as the business side.&8221; &8212; Capt. Jim Brickson of the Albert Lea Salvation Army

&8220;I think I would resolve &8212; even though I typically don&8217;t do resolutions &8212; I would resolve to do three things: One, procrastinate less; two, which goes together with No. 1 is to complete my home-movie editing, which I&8217;ve been postponing and get that done before our oldest son graduates this year; and third to take better care of my health &8212; eating better and exercising more so I am around to see my grandchildren.&8221;&8212; Dan Dorman, executive director of the Albert Lea Economic Development Agency
&8220;I never make a New Year&8217;s resolution. I really don&8217;t believe in them. Maybe to finish my house, but other than that I don&8217;t really have one. I don&8217;t think I&8217;ve ever really made one.&8221; &8212; April Sowder, Freeborn County office support specialist
&8220;I don&8217;t really have any things set down. Just don&8217;t spend so much money on useless stuff. I don&8217;t usually make one because I don&8217;t stick with it anyway. I want to be more organized next year.&8221; &8212; LaRae Cassens, Freeborn County employee
&8220;I guess I hadn&8217;t even really thought about it. I&8217;ve never been much one for that. I don&8217;t have anything in particular. I just hope that things continue to move forward at a good level.&8221; &8212; Glen Mathiason, chairman of the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners

&8220;It&8217;s too early to figure that out yet. Mine&8217;s probably going to be pretty simple. I would say enjoying life to it&8217;s fullest but I do that every day. No more house projects. I&8217;ve been working on my house all year. Once I finish the one&8217;s I&8217;ve got to finish.&8221; &8212; Andy Henschel, Shell Rock River Watershed District conservationist
