Irene Gordon, 85, Glenville

Funeral services for Irene Nina Gordon, 85, of Glenville, will be held at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Rev. Gail Klavetter will officiate. Interment will be at State Line Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Irene died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Albert Lea Medical Center.

Irene Nina Gordon was born on Jan. 6, 1923, to Nels and Inga (Burkhow) Mehus in Hayward. Irene grew up in rural Hayward and attended country school. She worked in the onion fields in Hollandale after school. Irene married George Gordon on Feb. 9, 1945, at the Glenville parsonage. The couple lived near Gordonsville, and Irene worked on the farm with George. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gordonsville where she had been active in circle and ladies aid. She was later a member of United Methodist Church in Glenville. Irene enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, she loved to mend and patch clothing, and enjoyed traveling. Irene enjoyed time with friends and family, but most of all, times spent with her grandchildren.

She put every one in her life ahead of herself. Irene was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgia (Victor) Groe of Lester Prairie; sons, Thomas (Marcene) Gordon of Albert Lea, and Dennis (Lois) Gordon of Glenville; grandchildren, Kirt (Stacey) Groe, Annette (John) Machemehl, Christina (Joe) Kadolph, Sara (John) Dowd, Kent Gordon, Stacy (Jordan) Vollmer; great-grandchildren, Allison and Morgan Machemehl, Reid VanHove, Sophie Groe, Mikaela, Christian, Jessie and Jamie Kadolph; brothers, Virgil (Helen) Mehus, Marion (Audrey) Mehus, and Herbert Mehus; sisters, Darlene Dobberstein, and Donna (Dennis) Nelson; and sisters-in-law, Audrey Mehus and Ruth Mehus.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1995; granddaughter, Glenda Gordon; brothers, Glen Mehus, Eugene Mehus, and Arlo Mehus; and brother-in-law, Carl Dobberstein.
