Funeral services for Jon Alan Cambern, 58, of Albert Lea will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home Chapel, Albert Lea. The Rev. James Berning will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County veterans organizations. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
Jon died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Jon Alan Cambern was born on Oct. 4, 1949, to Dale and Beverly (Havener) Cambern in Austin. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1968. Jon also attended Austin Junior College. He served in the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. Jon married Catherine Conway on Aug. 14, 1976, at St. Augustine&8217;s Church in Austin. The couple made their home in Albert Lea. He worked as a maintenance electrician for Albert Lea Medical Center and retired in 2005. Jon was just beginning to enjoy his retirement, playing cards and bingo, going out to breakfast with friends, his trips to Las Vegas and baking cookies with his granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Conway of Albert Lea; daughters, Erin L. (Andrew) Stein of Grand Forks, N.D., Sheila M. Cambern (Bryn Williams) of Mankato and Megan Q. Cambern (Justin Smith) of Owatonna; granddaughter, Ella M. Williams; brothers, Jay (Becky) Cambern, Joel M. Cambern, and Brian (Terri) Cambern; sisters, Diane J. Cambern (Wes Card), Susan K. Avery (John Perschbacher), and Debra A. Nelson (Corey Youngberg); mother-in-law, Grace A. Conway; brother-in-law, Michael Conway; sister-in-law, Amy (Ron) Espies; uncles, Richard Havener and Eugene (Olga) Cambern; aunt, Bonnie Krueger; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Beverly Cambern; and father-in-law, Richard Conway.
