INVER GROVE HEIGHTS &8212; The Albert Lea boys&8217; swim team advanced a relay and a pair of individuals to the state meet Friday and Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
The Tigers&8217; 200 medley relay team of Jordan Elleby, Chris Dorman, Matt Van Fossen and Torey Christensen finished fourth in the event, but their time of 1:44.25 was more than two seconds under the state cutoff to easily advance.
Van Fossen dominated the 100 butterfly picking up the victory with a time of 53.96. His time was a full second faster than the runner-up and positions him well for the state meet.
Van Fossen also finished third in the 200 individual medley automatically qualifying for state and his time of 2:06.27 was over a second faster than his prelim effort.
Dorman was Albert Lea&8217;s other state-bound swimmer as he finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke shaving a second off his prelim time and easily getting under the state cutoff time.
Both Van Fossen and Dorman swam at state last year for the Tigers.
